Industrial Scotrail CCTV workers call off strike after progress in talks

A STRIKE by vital CCTV workers on ScotRail has been called off tomorrow - but the Scottish Cup Final could still be disrupted by the dispute if a deal is not reached.

Monitoring workers at the train operating company are up in arms at massive staff cuts and shift changes.

But rail unions RMT and TSSA have called off tomorrow’s strike after progress was made in negotiations.

TSSA general secretary Manuel Cortes said: “This is a dispute that should never have happened.”

He said management had tried to “impose night shifts on parents who can’t simply leave their children home alone.”

The policy would not be needed if bosses “hadn't allowed way too many people in their CCTV centres to take voluntary severance”, Mr Cortes added.

Workers are still due to walk out on May 19, the day of the Scottish Cup Final between Celtic and Motherwell football clubs.

RMT members are still set to strike on June 11 and 12. “Ultimately this is and remains a safety issue,” RMT leader Mick Cash said.
