United against Britain’s education inequality
If the government is serious about improving social mobility, then it must properly invest in our education, writes SALLY HUNT

TODAY thousands of college and university staff, students and members of the public will descend on London to demonstrate against a raft of government policies that risk doing serious harm to education in this country.

The University and College Union has joined forces with the National Union of Students (NUS) to put on what promises to be the largest protest in years.

Our relationship with the NUS is incredibly important and we have stood shoulder to shoulder in opposition to higher fees and we will be out together fighting against rising fees, spiralling debt and the privatisation of education.

  • Sally Hunt is general secretary of the University and College Union. The march will start from Park Lane at 1pm, heading through central London to a rally in Millbank at 2.45pm.
