Hampshire Heroes: Volunteer Fighters in the Spanish Civil War
by Alan Lloyd
Clapton Press £11
AUTHOR Alan Lloyd’s dedicated research over many years tells the stories of some 40 volunteers from his home county in Hampshire Heroes: Volunteer Fighters in the Spanish Civil War.
Lloyd’s research is impressive for its breadth and depth, contacting over 100 relatives, friends, librarians, and archivists across the world’ as well as the major sources at Marx Memorial Library, the Russian State Archive of Socio-Political History and the Tamiment Library in New York.
Keeping the narrative of the Spanish civil war to a minimum, Lloyd ties in the accounts of each volunteer’s life and contribution with the chronological progression of the war.
