Men's Football Sport in Brief: 11/11/2018

Northern Ireland: Glenavon lead the Irish Premiership by a point after they drew 1-1 with Warrenpoint and second-placed Linfield’s stuttering form continued with a 2-1 loss to Coleraine.

Ballymena stay third after edging out Glentoran 1-0, Crusaders won by the same score at Ards and Paul McElroy scored twice as Dungannon came from behind to beat Institute 2-1. 

Cliftonville take on bottom club Newry in this evening’s kick off.

 

Palestine: Champions Hilal al-Quds moved top of the West Bank League after last week’s fixtures thanks to their 5-1 thumping of al-Birah Institution and Markz Balata’s first loss of the season, 2-1 at Jabal al-Mukaber (al-Ram).

Shabab al-Khaleel won 3-1 at Markaz Tulkarm, Shabab Alsamu drew 0-0 with bottom club Shabab Al-Dhahiriya in the Hebron derby, Thaqafi Tulkarem saw off Shabab al-Am’ari (Ramallah) 2-0 and Taraji Wadi al-Nes won 1-0 at Ahli al-Khalil.

 

Scotland: Ayr have opened up a four-point lead in the Scottish Championship after they were held to a 1-1 draw by Queen of the South and second-placed Ross County lost 1-0 at home to Dundee United.

Bottom club Falkirk gained their second win of the season, 1-0 at Dunfermline, Blair Spittal missed a penalty for Partick in their 1-0 loss to Inverness and Alloa won 2-0 at Greenock Morton.

 

Asia: Japan’s Kashima Antlers won the Asian Champions League on Saturday after a 0-0 draw with Iran’s Persepolis gave them a 2-0 aggregate win.

The J League team will go on to compete in December’s Fifa Club World Cup, in the UAE, against Real Madrid and the champions from each of the other continental confederations.

Kashima last qualified in 2016 when they lost in the final to the Spanish giants after extra-time.
