LATVIAN authorities have begun dismantling the monument to victory over Nazi Germany in the capital, Riga.
Huge bronze statues of Red Army soldiers who liberated Latvia from German occupation were removed on Tuesday, and demolition work is ongoing.
The statue also contains a “motherland” figure and an obelisk topped with a Soviet star.
