Throwing Eggs at Thatcher
by Joe Williams
A man throws eggs at a statue of Margaret Thatcher as it is installed in her home town of Grantham, Lincolnshire

I threw an egg at Thatcher.
Not the real one, but the statue
they put up in Grantham,
which is the closest you can get
since she’s been ding dong dead.

Afterwards, I felt guilty.
I could have given that egg
to a food bank. But then,
if it hadn’t been for Thatcher
we might not need food banks
in the world’s fifth richest country.

Just one of the many reasons why
I threw an egg at Thatcher.
