SAXOPHONIST Paul Dunmall and drummer Mark Sanders are both South Londoners. Dunmall was born in Welling in 1953, Sanders in Bromley in 1960.

“I went to school in Eltham, close to where Paul grew up,” Sanders told me. “I met him through bassist Paul Rogers and first played with him at a Brighton gig. I felt elated – Dun was awe-inspiring and very encouraging. My tutor, Brian Tueson was in the audience. It felt pretty special.”

“We have played together on 29 albums. We get on well and used to travel to gigs together, talk about the music and more. He’s been a big inspiration in my life and career.”
