Scottish Labour reasserts commitment to home rule within UK
First Minister Nicola Sturgeon during a Holyrood debate on 'Scotland's Future' where MSPs will be asked to back a second independence referendum this year, at the Scottish Parliament, Edinburgh

LABOUR has reasserted its commitment to Scottish home rule within the UK as Nicola Sturgeon urged MSPs to back her plans for a second independence referendum this year.

A debate at Holyrood today saw the SNP leader ask MSPs to back the power to call future referendums being placed in the hands of Scots.

The First Minister’s case for a fresh public vote is based on claims that there has been “a material change in circumstances since 2014,” but it needs Westminster government co-operation in setting a date.
